DAY TWO - CLAY ANIMATION

It was great that you experimented in order to learn from your mistakes, and from the mistakes your other classmates made. We are a team!

Today we worked on three clay animations:
1. Make a ball of clay morph into a snake and slither off of the page.
2. Make a ball of clay morph into a car and drive off of the page.
3. Make a ball of clay morph into different shapes.

Here are some great examples of morphing clay!

When we screened your animations we learned how to:

CRITIQUE
Identify the choices that the animators made and discuss what you liked or learned from those decisions.
Here are some things we need to think about and talk to each other about in order to make our animations the best that they can be!

Color Contrast - The colors of the shapes against the color of the background.
Could you see the shapes clearly? Why or why not?

Movement - Was the movement of the shapes or characters choppy or smooth?
What makes this happen?

Personal Opinion - What was the funniest part? What was your favorite part?
Did the animators make the impossible possible?

We also learned about DEADLINES, how to make sure that we finish everything by a certain date, in our case our SCREENING of all of our animations on Friday and our long term animation project.

Long-term animation project : You will all, within your groups, make a three to five minute collaborative animation with sound, backgrounds, characters and a story. You will use your wild imaginations to come up with your own characters and cool backgrounds made entirely of paper.

2-D (Two dimensional) Animation :

CUTOUT ANIMATION:
Changing PAPER objects/shapes/characters and photographing them
one frame at a time to make the objects look like they're moving.

CLAY ANIMATION:
Changing CLAY objects and photographing them
one frame at a time to make the objects look like they're moving and morphing.
** This is the kind of animation that we will be doing in class this week! **

COMPUTER ANIMATION / CGI :
A computer version of stop motion. Instead of moving objects one frame at a time with your hands, the computer moves the object for you.

PIXILATION:
Changing PEOPLE as objects and photographing them
one frame at a time to make the objects look like they're moving and morphing.
Using this effect allows people to disappear and reappear out of thin air, float across the ground and fly!
*** We will do a special pixilation exercise on Wednesday ***

Hey all of you animators! Your pixilation turned out so awesome! Take a look:

I hope that all of you are pumped for our screening tomorrow, Friday, at 2:45.
Make sure to give the invitations to your families and friends to come and see all of the hard work that you've been doing this week.
Make sure to practice your filmmaker introductions!

Our deadline to finish animating is Thursday at 2:30
so that we will have time to create our sound effects.
Our silly symphony game will help us come up with some interesting sounds.

DAY THREE - ANIMATION COMBINATION

Great job today - you all catch on so quickly and are working so well together. This strong teamwork will allow us to finish up our long term animation project in time for our deadline - halfway through Thursday's class, so that we can begin to work on our sound effects!

We did so much today, we begin these long-term projects in which you all are encouraged to use any kind of animation that we have learned in class so far, clay, paper cut-out, stopmotion, etc. to begin to make a story!

In between working hard on that animation, as a class we will be creating out pixilation which is...the animation of humans, like you & me!

Hey everyone! I was so impressed with the great work that you are all doing. You all morph that clay so naturally!

LAST DAY OF ANIMATION FOR KIDS

Thank you all for working so hard this week.
Jojo, Elisha, Liam, Eloise, Rhys, Lily & James,
you all were great teammates and animators!
I had such a fun time this week spending time with you, getting to know you, and learning from all of you!
You are all creative and kind people...I hope you get to share what you learned in class with other people, whether it be how you all learned to give compliments at the end of the day, how to be a good audience member, or how to create a cool background!
I am so so so proud of you all!

The screening was wonderful - as you all know from the thunderous applause!
You all introduced your animations and yourself so beautifully!

Hey everyone! Great sound effects today - your silly symphony was simply marvelous!

You all did an amazing job meeting your deadline today.

I hope that you've been practicing your filmmaker introduction for the screening tomorrow, your audience members will love everything you have to say.

Today, in between working on our long term animations, we will do a pixilation exercise.
Do you remember what pixilation is? It's animating humans (YOU!)

We will use costumes to create characters and tell a story.
Here's an example that I made with some of the same costumes that you will be wearing!

DAY TWO - Animation for Kids

Today we learned how to make a shape snake slither, make a shape man walk and make a shape dog jump!
Everything that you experimented with the first day - lighting, movement, story, and color - allowed you to do these animations with ease. You all are animation pros already!

When we screened your animations we learned how to:

Articulation - The movement of the characters limbs. Did the person move like a real person or more like a robot?

Personal Opinion - What was the funniest part? What was your favorite part?
Did the animators make the impossible possible?
